In addition to the delivery of a comprehensive technical program, an important element of all successful conferences is the social program. OttawaGeo2007: The Diamond Jubilee will provide social opportunities for delegates to meet, mingle and get to know their professional colleagues in a relaxed setting, outside of the technical and business streams. The conference will build upon the 60 years of tradition, and will offer memorable social events.
Numerous social events are planned and will be included in the full conference registration packages, or can be ordered "a la carte" by delegates attending part of the conference and for accompanying guests.
The tentative program of Social Events includes the following:
Icebreaker and Exhibitor Reception
Sunday, October 21, 2007, 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Come and meet up with old acquaintances, or introduce yourself to new colleagues from across the country and other parts of the world, as we join together for a complimentary "drinks and nibblies" cocktail reception in the Trade Exhibition Hall.
Ottawa/Gatineau Local Colour Night
Monday, October 22, 2007, 7:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.
Our nation’s capital is home to numerous historical and cultural venues that we are examining as possible locations for the Local Colour Night. Whatever the final location, we’re sure you’ll enjoy Ottawa/Gatineau hospitality, our local entertainment and, naturally good food and good times!
GeoRun 5K Fitness Run
Tuesday, October 23, 2007, 6:30 a.m.
Join your colleagues for a breath of fresh morning air along the scenic Ottawa River! This new event will be led by local runners (and geo-professionals) who will guide you past some interesting historical sites along a 5-kilometre route. The pace will be relaxed, starting and finishing at the conference hotel. Post-run refreshments will be included.
The Diamond Jubilee Conference Banquet
Tuesday, October 23, 2007, 7:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.
It’s time to get dressed up to celebrate another successful conference with your colleagues, both old and new. This conference wrap-up event, to be held at the Ottawa Westin, will deliver a culinary feast and popular entertainment to close the social program.
Be sure to bring your partner and include these popular social events in your plans when attending the 2007 Diamond Jubilee Conference!
More information on our Social Events will be posted early in 2007.
