Technical Tours

OttawaGeo2007: The Diamond Jubilee is pleased to offer two full-day technical tours, in and around the National Capital Region.  The tour stops will not only be of particular professional interest to attendees at this year’s conference but they will also provide views of the unique and interesting scenery of eastern Ontario.  All tour participants will receive a comprehensive field guidebook and a souvenir.

The first tour will be held before the conference on Sunday, October 21, 2007 and will include stops at a former landfill, a recently opened bio-reactor waste management facility, a paleo-earthquake, a recent landslide, and an important groundwater supply feature.  Please click here for more information.

The second tour will be held after the conference on Thursday, October 25, 2007 and will include stops at three unique transportation sites each with particular geotechnical issues (transitway rock cut, interchange on Leda clay, “reverse bath-tub” road cut).  We will also be stopping at Canada’s largest calcium carbonate quarry and a major esker feature providing potable water and raw materials for construction.  A final stop will include Canada first plasma arc energy-from-waste plant.
